Make a domation to support diabetes research
Since its foundation in 1989, the Belgian Diabetes Registry (BDR) has evolved to a national network of physicians, researchers and their teams, all collaborating in scientific research on diabetes. The primary task of BDR is to collect data nationwide from patients with diabetes and their relatives with the long term goal to launch innovative clinical studies aiming to develop effective prevention or a permanent cure for the disease.
The activities of the registry allow
- to assess and follow the disease incidence in Belgium and hence the importance of the health problem ?diabetes? in our country
- to identify and follow potential participants (relatives at risk or new-onset patients) in clinical trials
- to launch innovative intervention studies that would not have been possible in Belgium without this national collaboration
The collection of these much-needed data and blood samples to realize these studies requests a logistic framework and intensive fieldwork nationwide consisting of regular contact with over 100 clinical centers and frequent blood collection days all over the country. Financial support for these logistical activities is hard to obtain via scientific research projects. We will be pleased to use your generous donation for the large amounts of material (needles, sample tubes, disinfectant, small presents for participating children) used for the blood sampling.
